The Volkswagen Group announced today that it will reach a goal of 10 million sales four years ahead of its own prediction. Initially estimating 2018 as the year it would accomplish this feat, the automotive group stated that unexpected early figures suggest that this year will mark the fulfillment of its sales goal. Strong sales across Europe and Asia compensated for weaker numbers coming out of other markets.
“Even though the situation in some markets was, at times, difficult, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand continued to develop well in the first two months of the year,” said Christian Kingler, a board member for the VW Group’s sales and marketing.
Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porches, Seat, and Skoda marques all fall under the Volkswagen Group’s banner, as well as its own VW-badged vehicles.
Martin Winterkorn, chairman and CEO of the VW Group, has led the charge in progressive thinking that yielded tremendous growth. He realizes that the industry must be more agile and accepting of new ideas.
Winterkorn, just prior to the Geneva Motor Show, said, “People’s expectations are changing and the digital revolution is realigning how we all live. The auto industry must not close its eyes to these developments. For instance, we must consider the consumer expectations. Model cycles must be much shorter. We must react faster to trends and be more flexible in what we offer.”
