The chef pairs this massive burger with a side order of French fries and a 24-ounce soft drink. The clock starts when you receive your meal, and you have 30 minutes to finish every bite. The state of North Carolina is well-known for its barbecue, so it makes sense that a local restaurant offers a challenge that includes this staple. The cost to participate is $34, and you have one hour to finish the meal. It includes a pound each of barbecue and ribs, along with a whole fried chicken, a pint of slaw, a pint of Brunswick stew, and a dozen hush puppies. Oh, and you’ll have to finish a bowl of banana pudding for dessert. It’s a tough challenge, but those who prevail receive the meal for free, along with a T-shirt and a plaque on the wall that includes their names.
El Gigante
Located in Chapel Hill, Bandido’s Mexican CafĂ© is a favorite among local college students and families throughout the area. If you’re up for a challenge, take the dare to “Conquer El Gigante.” This massive burrito includes onions, rice, black beans, cheese, tomatoes, salsa verde, and steak and chicken fajitas cooked with more onions and bell peppers. It’s topped with extra cheese, salsa roja, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, and tomatoes. The price is $16.95, and those who accomplish the eating challenge get a free T-shirt and a photo of themselves on the restaurant’s website. It’s only available for dine-in.
Chai Torture Wings
If you can handle a heavy dose of spice, visit Chai’s Noodle Bar & Bistro to take on the Chai Torture Wings Challenge. If you can finish a dozen eye-wateringly spicy wings within 30 minutes, you’ll get the whole basket for free, along with a commemorative t-shirt.
