Volkswagen’s Contest Offers Great Opportunity to Young Designers

Volkswagen is known for a great many things. It sells three models that are consistently listed in 24/7 Wall Street website’s annual Top Ten Models. It, as of 2011, spends the most amount of money out of all automakers on research and development. Now, we can boast that Volkswagen will tap into the creativity of future young professionals for a fun, new project.

Students from all fields of design have the opportunity to submit a comprehensive design proposal: the first portion is to create a “cool video game car” that represents the Volkswagen brand; the second and far broader portion challenges entrants to develop a video game scenario in which their concept fits. Imagine a sleek new sports car with the VW badge rocketing down some portion of the Autobahn or a new SUV – with modified tires – conquering mountainous terrain. Limits of the imagination are the only bounds.

The company will select three designs, and the students who created them will participate in a six-month internship at Volkswagen’s primary design studio in Wolfsburg, Germany. This competition serves as a chance to build a portfolio with a reputable brand – and in an enriching experience. To signify the importance of the event, VW design chief Klaus Bischoff will be among the judges.

This design contest is not a stand-alone effort. The automaker has indicated its aims to establish lasting collaboration with universities and schools of design; this will help ensure that talented young folks get due recognition and lead to possible future employment.

If you would like more information regarding the contest, which is open from now until August, make sure you check out the official website: www.volkswagen-design-contest.com.

Should there be any talented young designers in your life, we ask that you encourage them to participate. There’s no better way to inspire a young adult than to champion and foster his or her talents.
