Volkswagen GTI Makes Coolest Cars Under $25,000 List

2014 marks another year of Kelley Blue Book’s Coolest New Cars Under $25,000. This annual search determines which cars within this price range are the most chic and enjoyable to drive. No longer are people relegated to bland, unremarkable vehicles – as this year’s list proves.

Kelley Blue Book Managing Editor Jason Allan once again led the efforts to find these vehicles from among 104 different models. He strongly believes that all of the cars they found “are actually fun, stylish and desirable.” We couldn’t agree more.

These inexpensive vehicles are often marketed to younger audiences, who typically do not require all of the accoutrements and features characterized as “creature comforts.” This allows automakers to apply their skills at making the vehicles look sharp and perform with sportier handling. In the end, the result is a vehicle that offers a basic package of options but has the aesthetics and performance capabilities that can thrill the younger segment of car buyers.

This list uses KBB’s Fair Purchase Price, which estimates the value of a given model based upon sales within the United States over the past week.

“This compact hatchback from Volkswagen comes standard with a great combination of luxury and sport features. Even the base GTI boasts a 200-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, eight-speaker audio system and other upscale amenities. ‘The GTI is kind of an affordable version of a higher-dollar European sports sedan,” Allan says. ‘It has a ‘European’ driving feel and a lot of interior refinement, but its hatchback design and relative roominess make it a really versatile car.'”
