2014 NAIAS: Debut of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf R

At the 2014 North American International Auto Show, Volkswagen has confirmed the launch date of its new Golf R. This sporty Volkswagen will be available in U.S. dealerships in the first quarter of 2015, which is approximately six months after the basic Golf and GTI go on sale. This all-new Golf R has marked improvements over previous iterations.

The car’s small stature is not indicative of its potential. It is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine the produces 280 lb-ft torque. Reaching 62 MPH in 4.9 seconds as a result of the improved system, this is the most powerful Golf. Despite this improved power, the Golf R actually boasts better fuel efficiency with a combined figure of 33 MPG.

Volkswagen intends to continue using its 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system that delivers 100% of torque to the rear wheels. In the Golf R, there is also a new suspension system, speed-sensitive steering, and a stability control system; all of which set the standard in sportier compact cars.

On the inside, leather trim sport seats, sports steering wheel, faux carbon accents, and more await fortunate consumers who discover this gem.
